On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a Nolan County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along U.S. Highway 84 for a traffic violation. A secondary deputy arrived on scene to assist, and during the roadside investigation, the driver identified as Raymond Ornelas Jr. of Snyder, was taken into custody.

As the investigation continued, deputies discovered over three pounds of Methamphetamine, along with a quantity of Promethazine, inside Ornelas’ vehicle. He was subsequently transported to the Nolan County Jail, and charged with the felony offense of Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance of over 400 grams.

Before clearing the scene, deputies also ensured the safety and well being of Ornelas' dog by coordinating with the Sweetwater Animal Shelter, which responded and took custody of the animal.

This investigation remains ongoing and, upon completion, will be forwarded to the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
