Yesterday, Nolan County deputies responded to a major incident on Interstate Twenty at the 239-mile post, involving an overturned tractor trailer hauling horses. As a result of the crash, numerous horses escaped onto the interstate and surrounding properties, creating a dangerous and fast-moving situation for both motorists and the animals involved.
Our deputies, alongside our law enforcement partners and local fire crews, worked tirelessly for hours to safely contain and round up the horses while keeping the roadway and community safe.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who stepped in to help. From volunteers who gave their time, to those who brought trailers, equipment, feed, fencing supplies, and other resources, your willingness to respond so quickly made an incredible difference. Thanks to the combined efforts of our community and first responders, horses were safely rounded up and removed from the roadway.
Nolan County is truly blessed with an outstanding community and exceptional public safety partners. The kindness, teamwork, and willingness to help during a challenging situation is something we will never take for granted.
"To everyone who shared posts on social media making the community aware of the incident and to those who answered the call and helped us, thank you. Your support and kindness reflect the very best of Nolan County and our surrounding counties." – Sheriff James Villanueva
