Patrol
The Patrol Division is considered the backbone of the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office and its most visible component in the community.
Operating under the direction of the Chief Deputy and a Patrol Sergeant, this division is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment for both residents and visitors. Deputies provide coverage across approximately 914 square miles of rural Nolan County, including more than 1,000 miles of improved county roads, as well as lakes, residences, and businesses located outside the city limits of Sweetwater and Roscoe.
Patrol deputies perform a wide range of duties, including proactive patrol, emergency response, traffic enforcement, drug interdiction, courthouse security, civil process service, criminal investigations, and warrant execution. They are also responsible for transporting inmates to and from courts, state facilities, and other county jails, as well as conducting juvenile and mental health transports throughout the region. During critical incidents at the county jail, patrol deputies provide additional manpower and security support.
Given the scope of their responsibilities, deputies must possess a strong understanding of the law and be well-rounded law enforcement professionals. In most cases, when a call for service is made, a Patrol Division deputy is the first to respond.
Fleet Vehicle Program
The Sheriff's Office maintains a program, commonly referred to as a "take home fleet vehicle program," whereby each deputy is assigned a distinctly marked patrol unit. This program has proven effective in reducing maintenance costs while increasing visibility throughout the communities where deputies live. It also allows for the rapid deployment of deputies during man made or natural emergencies, enhancing overall patrol coverage across the county.
Vehicles
The office is presently utilizing Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles, which have been specifically ordered in a Silver Ice Metallic color. These vehicles are adorned with green and gold reflective decals, along with 5-star badges for enhanced visibility. Each vehicle prominently features the designation "Nolan County Sheriff" and includes unique vehicle numbers that serve to identify all patrol units operated within the county.
