Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division serves the citizens of Nolan County by conducting timely, thorough investigations into serious felony and misdemeanor offenses, as well as locating missing persons and recovering stolen property.
Staffed by experienced law enforcement professionals, the division is committed to bringing cases to a successful resolution. Investigators are responsible for all aspects of crime scene work, including processing, photography, and the collection and preservation of forensic evidence. Each year, the division handles approximately 250 major cases, a number that continues to grow. These investigations range from theft, burglary, and robbery to computer crimes, fraud, identity theft, sex offenses, crimes against children, aggravated assaults, homicide, suicide, and narcotics violations.
In addition to criminal investigations, the division conducts comprehensive background investigations for applicants and manages all internal affairs investigations involving employee complaints. Personnel also ensure strict protocols are followed for the receipt, security, preservation, and disposition of property and evidence.
The division further monitors compliance with the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program for offenders residing in unincorporated areas of the county, conducting checks and follow-up investigations and pursuing charges when necessary.
During large-scale or complex cases, investigators frequently collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share resources and expertise. These partnerships enhance the division’s ability to solve crimes, apprehend dangerous offenders, disrupt organized criminal activity, and reduce potential threats to public safety.
