Ten female inmates at the Nolan County Jail took part in a baptism ceremony on Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, marking a moment of spiritual renewal and personal transformation. The event was part of the jail’s ongoing ministry outreach program, which offers inmates opportunities to explore their faith and make positive life changes during and after incarceration.

Led by Alexandrea “Nikki” Lawhon and Soccorro “Corey” Starkey from Identity Church in Sweetwater, the women, Amber Hamilton, Ann Kirkland, Ashley Lopez, Destiny Gonzales, Georgina Rodriguez, Rose Alvarado, Sherale Singer, Tammy Castillo, Tammy Spraggins, and Olga Torrez publicly declared their faith in a display of hope and new life.

Jail Administrator Marsha Harris said the baptisms symbolize “new beginnings and spiritual rebirth,” expressing hope that the women will continue to live according to the gospel and inspire others within the facility.

“These moments remind us that change is possible,” Jail Sergeant Israel Vera said. “Our goal is to give each person a chance to start fresh and carry their faith forward when they return to the community.”
The ministry program, supported by local churches and volunteers, continues to play an important role in promoting rehabilitation, reflection, and hope among inmates at the Nolan County Jail.
