During the early morning hours of July 16, 2025, law enforcement agencies responded to a critical incident in Rotan, Texas, specifically in the 600 block of Johnson Street. Deputies with the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched after assistance was requested by their counterparts from Fisher County, who were already engaged with reports of a prowler and gunfire originating from within a residence.
Upon their arrival, the deputies promptly established a secure perimeter around the location and identified the individual in question as Curtis Hewitt. To further strengthen their response efforts, the Texas Department of Public Safety was requested for additional support, which facilitated the initiation of negotiation efforts. Ultimately, Hewitt exited the residence voluntarily, leading to his arrest without any further escalation of the situation.
Following his arrest, Hewitt was transported to the Jones County Jail, where he is currently facing two felony counts of aggravated assault on a public servant. District Attorney Ricky Thompson has confirmed that the ongoing investigation will be overseen by the Texas Rangers.
There were no injuries during this incident.
