In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in that same year, National Police Week, serves as a time to remember the brave men and women in law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
"As Sheriff, I am honored to lead an incredible team of over 16 sworn deputies who each play a vital role in keeping our communities safe. These individuals ensure the security of our courthouse, conduct criminal investigations, execute warrants and civil process service, patrol our neighborhoods, and perform many other duties that contribute to the safety and well-being of our citizens.
We are truly blessed to serve in a community where citizens are supportive of law enforcement, and this week, I'd like to encourage each of you to join me in unity with law enforcement across the country to honor the memory of the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting others.
We also want to express our appreciation for those who continue to serve today. Their dedication to duty, often in the face of adversity, is the foundation of our community's safety. A simple gesture, whether it's a kind word in passing or a thoughtful note of appreciation, can uplift these men and women, reminding them that their hard work does not go unnoticed."
