Off-Duty deputies play key-role in the apprehension of capital murder suspect

Ray Anthony Gutierrez, 26, a man wanted on a Capital Murder charge for the death of Justin Vaughn, of Snyder, was apprehended after being spotted by two off-duty deputies. On Saturday, February 13, 2016, two off-duty deputies who while walking, spotted Gutierrez traveling south in a white sedan on the northeast side of Sweetwater. The deputies were able to quickly acquire a vehicle and trail Gutierrez, while contacting the Sweetwater Police Department for assistance in apprehending him. The vehicle Gutierrez was traveling in was subsequently stopped by a Sweetwater Police Officer in the 400 block of 12th Street, where the deputies and police officers took Gutierrez into custody without incident.
