In recognition of Jailer Amber Mulanax and Jail Sergeant Israel Vera’s lifesaving actions on July 16, 2025. Jailer Mulanax, known for her vigilance, was conducting a routine cell check, a standard procedure that is vital for ensuring the protection and welfare of those incarcerated within, and maintaining the safety and security of the Nolan County Jail.

During this inspection, she observed unusual behavior exhibited by a male inmate, which immediately raised her concerns. Recognizing that something was wrong, Jailer Mulanax promptly assessed the situation, drawing upon her extensive training and experience in the field.

Understanding the gravity of the moment, she quickly called for backup, demonstrating her awareness of the potential dangers involved in handling this type of situation alone. Her request for assistance was met with immediate action, and Jail Sergeant Vera responded promptly. After entering the cell, they found the inmate was in the act of attempting suicide, a moment that could have ended tragically if not for their timely intervention.
